Shared inbox
A shared inbox for your support email
Everyone on your team works from one list of customer emails. See who's handling what, leave notes only your team can read, and reply from your own support address.
No more “did anyone reply to this?”
A shared Gmail login or a forwarding list works until two people answer the same customer, or nobody does. A shared inbox gives every email an owner and a status.
Assign to a person
Every conversation shows who's on it. Replying assigns it to you automatically, so nothing gets answered twice.
Open, waiting, closed
Reply and it moves to “waiting on customer”. When the customer writes back it reopens by itself, at the top of the list.
Internal notes
Add a note for your team right in the thread. Customers never see it, and neither does the AI.
Proper email threads
Replies thread correctly in the customer's inbox, and their answers land back in the same conversation — with the quoted text trimmed.
Mine, unassigned, everything
Filter to your own conversations, the ones nobody has picked up yet, or everything that's still open.
The chatbot’s hand-offs, too
When the website chatbot can't help and a customer asks for a person, it arrives here with the conversation so far.
Keep your address. Connect it in minutes.
There's nothing to migrate. Your support address stays exactly where it is — AskBase just receives a copy of what's sent to it.
- 1
Add your support address
Type [email protected]. AskBase spots whether it's on Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 and shows only the steps for that.
- 2
Turn on forwarding
Paste the forwarding address into Gmail or Outlook. Gmail's confirmation shows up right on the setup page, with a button to confirm it.
- 3
Reply as yourself
Add two DNS records and replies come from [email protected]. Until then they're sent on your behalf with your name on them.

Questions people ask
- What is a shared inbox?
- A shared inbox lets several people answer emails sent to one address, like support@, without sharing a password. Each email becomes a conversation you can assign, comment on and close, so everyone can see what's been handled.
- Does it work with Gmail and Outlook?
- Yes. You keep your Gmail, Google Workspace, Outlook or Microsoft 365 address and forward it to AskBase. The setup page shows the exact steps for your provider.
- Will customers see replies from my own address?
- Yes, once you add two DNS records for your domain. Before that, replies are sent on your behalf with your team's name on them, and customers' answers still come back to the right conversation.
- Do I have to move my email?
- No. Your mailbox stays where it is and keeps a copy of everything. AskBase receives a forwarded copy of each email.
- Can I leave notes my customer won't see?
- Yes. Internal notes sit in the thread for your team only. They're never emailed, and they're never shown to the AI assistant.
- Is this a Help Scout alternative?
- For small teams, yes: a shared inbox with assignment, notes and statuses, a help centre, and an AI chatbot that answers from your help articles — all working from the same content.
